A team roping event is being held to benefit Waco firefighter Garth Goodwin.

The event will be held on Aug. 19 at the Extraco Coliseum in Waco.

There will be team roping events, live and silent auction, raffle and a special presentation.

The roping events are $60 per team.

While working off duty, Goodwin was performing routine maintenance on a billboard. He came in contact with high voltage power lines causing him to fall.  He suffered 2nd-degree burns and a paralyzing spinal cord injury. He was with the fire department for 17 years.

Friends and family of Goodwin created a Facebook page to help raise donations for the Goodwin family to move into a handicap accessible home. The project is called #HomeforGarth
