A Central Texas church celebrated its second back to school bash Saturday, Aug. 12.

The Word of Life Fellowship Church in Killeen served lunch to those waiting in line for free backpacks and school supplies.

Two men also volunteered to give free haircuts in order to help kids in Killeen ISD look their best for the first day of school.

This is the second year the church has held this event, and this year it was more than double in size!

"I believe the church is here for the community, not just for us. And we're just tools to be used to reach out to the community. And to have a showing like this, it just overwhelms me... I just can't explain to you how many people... but that's just God at His best," Pastor Larry Ford Sr. said.

Pastor Ford and his Word of Life Fellowship church community gave out about 135 backpacks plus school supplies. He said he is already working on partnering with other local churches next year to make the event even bigger to supply more kids with the school supplies they need.
