A Bellmead man is in jail after police said he assaulted his girlfriend and injuring her dog.
Police said Calvin Roberts, 30, became angry with his girlfriend and threw her Chihuahua puppy, named Dandy, against the wall on July 28. Dandy would later die from her injuries on July 29.
The victim wanted to end the relationship and have Roberts leave the residence on July 30. Roberts became angry and threw a laundry basket at the victim which caused an abrasion. Roberts pinned the victim and prevented her from leaving. She was able to get to a phone and called 9-1-1.
Roberts was taken into custody on Aug. 8. He is being charged with animal cruelty, assault family violence, and unlawful restraint.
