Man dead after getting hit by train in Elm Mott identified

ELM MOTT, TX (KXXV) -

A man is dead after he was hit and killed by a train in Elm Mott. 

The man is identified as 61-year-old John Ray Garner of Elm Mott.

According to the McLennan County Sheriff's Office, it happened just after 10 p.m. Saturday near Mesquite Tree Road. 

According to Sheriff McNamara, the crossings arms were down, bells ringing and lights were flashing, but he disregarded it. 

Garner lived a block away from the area, authorities believe he either was walking home or walking somewhere. 

The train stopped after Garner was struck.

The investigation is ongoing.
