WACO, TX (KXXV) -

Academy Sports and Outdoors is helping 30 kids with the Waco YMCA prepare for the new year with its annual Back-to-School shopping spree.

On Aug. 8, each of these children will receive a $100 Academy gift card to use towards athletic apparel, backpacks, shoes and other school necessities. The donation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Academy Sports and Outdoors at 210 North New Road, Waco, TX 76710.

Schantecqua Bell who is a parent of children chosen for the shopping spree said she appreciates the help.

"I have family that would be willing to help, if I needed the extra help but this came in handy because I didn't have to ask for anything extra. They got everything they needed," Bell said.

A child who was shopping at the event was also grateful for the gift card.

"It feels good because I get 100 dollar gift card to buy school stuff," Student Jamiya Bonner said.

This is the program's eighth year. It has grown to include over 100 similar events, benefiting over 3,000 kids throughout the Southeast and Midwest United States.

This is a private event for the 30 children with the Waco YMCA.
