Handcuffed woman flees in DPS trooper car after DWI arrest

The Texas Department of Public Safety said a handcuffed woman that was under arrest for driving while intoxicated, fled in a DPS troopers car and drove it for three miles.

 On July 28 at around 9:20 p.m., a DPS Trooper arrested a woman identified as 31-year-old Bridget Cast of Longview, for driving while intoxicated after investigating a traffic crash on Old San Antonio Road, near the Madison County line.

After the arrest Cast slipped her handcuffed hands from her back to her front and fled the scene in the marked DPS patrol car.

The Trooper partnered with a Madison County Deputy who was on-scene to offer assistance for the crash investigation, the pair pursued Cast. 

The DPS Trooper fired at the fleeing vehicle, disabling it, and bringing the chase to an end that lasted about three miles.

Cast was arrested for felony evading, felony unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and the original driving while intoxicated charge.

She was transported to the Madison County Sheriff's Office jail.

This case remains under investigation.
