A Memorial Ruck in honor of 2nd Lt. Darryn Andrews and Master Sgt. Charles Price III will take place in Cameron City Park on August 19.

The two soldiers died while serving their country. 2nd Lt. Andrews died September 4, 2009, from wounds received when enemy forces attacked his vehicle in Afghanistan. Master Sgt. Price died on August 12, 2011 from injuries received when a bomb exploded by his patrol unit in the Kandahar province.

Participants of Memorial Rucks often carry a weighted backpack along with mementos of those honored.

The 8-mile ruck will begin at 8 a.m. with a memorial service following at 1 p.m. Earl Granville, an amputee and Army veteran will be the guest speaker.

Granville has dedicated his time to mental health issues within the veteran community. He is well known for the 2017 Boston Marathon race when he carried his race guide over his shoulder as she carried the American flag as they crossed the finish line.
