Temple police said they are investigating after a man was shot while playing basketball with his children in the front of his house located in the 5900 block of Stonehaven Dr. on Thursday.

Police initially received the call about another shooting after a woman said that she was looking out of her window, and a bullet penetrated her window. There were no injuries at this incident. This incident happened around 8:33 p.m.

Officers said they could hear shots being fired from behind the field.

Police said they found a man shooting a 9mm pistol at a constructed berm on his property on 1200 block of East FM 93. Police added that he had shot several hundred rounds by the time the officer found him.

After police found the man shooting on his property, they heard about a victim arriving at Baylor Scott and White Emergency Room. The victim said he was playing basketball with his children when he was shot. His home was approximately two blocks away from the first shooting location.

The bullet hit the victim in the abdomen, and his wife drove him to the emergency room.

He was not listed in serious condition and medical staff was able to remove the bullet without taking the victim into surgery.

Temple Police Department’s Violent Crime Squad arrived on scene to investigate.
