The Waco Parks and Recreation Department is trying a new program to get people active in Cameron Park.

"Wild Wednesdays" is a new program that takes people on a guided hike through Cameron Park.

Every week, a guide leads hikers through one of the park's many hiking trails.

Hikers are also taught Cameron Park history along the way.

The parks department hopes the program teaches people more about the city's biggest park.

"I like to call Cameron Park the jewel of Waco," said Arianna Gustafson, an intern with the City of Waco Parks and Recreation. "It's just really fun to come out and explore. There's a lot of different activities you can do here as well, hiking, biking, picnicking, frisbee golf. It's just a fun way to get outside."

The program will end the end of July, but the department will consider keeping it if people keep hiking.
