The Waco Animal Shelter is experiencing higher intake of animals after the holiday celebrations.

The shelter director said that July 5 is usually a busy time at the shelter.

As of 7 p.m., the shelter had an intake of 32 animals.

"We normally get more intake after the Fourth of July due to the fact that we have the fireworks and the animals are getting scared and trying to find a hiding space," said Luis Leyva, the shelter director.
