July is National Parks and Recreation Month and the City of Temple is celebrating by hosting a variety of fun, low cost or free activities for residences of all ages and abilities.

This Saturday, July 1, the Temple Parks and Recreation will kick off this month with the Big Day of Play event held at Wilson Park. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Big Day of Play is free for children and families to play games and enjoy time together in the park. The Clark Pool will be open, and free, during this event. Free hotdogs, ice cream and lemonade will be provided for attendees.

The National Recreation and Park Association created Parks and Recreation Month to celebrate the department’s ability to transform our lives by providing places to play, get fit and stay healthy and improve our quality of life.

You can find the Temple Parks and Recreation calendar of events at TempleParks.org or pictured below.

The NRPA is celebrating the month by holding weekly contests encouraging people to use the hashtag #NRPAPlayChallenge and #PlayOnJuly to show why play is important to their lives. For more information on this visit nrpa.org/july
