Copperas Cove High School 2017 graduate Ruth Lautenschlager has been named the Texas District Exchange Excel Youth of the Year.

This honor is largely based on Lautenschlager’s volunteer service around her school and community. Lautenschlager has accumulated more than 650 hours of volunteer service during her four years of high school.

In her school, Lautenschlager held multiple leadership positions in her high school government and was involved in her senior class, FFA, National Honor Society, the Excel Club and several other organizations. She volunteered in several activities including student registration, school tours, welcome nights, prom and homecoming committees and spirit committees.

In the community, Lautenschlager volunteered with a variety of events including National Night Out to ringing bells with the Salvation Army. She also volunteers in her church by participating in the youth group, vacation bible school, mission projects and special activities. She also volunteered with the Pink Warrior Angels organization to support breast cancer patients and their caregivers.

“I have witnessed first-hand how being a positive leader can inspire others to work together for a common goal of helping others in need,” Lautenschlager said. “Through my volunteer service, I strive to inspire others, to bring hope, and to make a difference in the world by making it a little better than it was before.”

Lautenschlager will advance to the national competition for the National Exchange Excel Youth of the Year.
