University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s golfers Jarrod Brown and Mats Heien have been named as two of 30 semifinalists for the 2017 Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Barbasol. Finalists for the award will be announced at the GCAA Awards Banquet on May 16th.

Brown, a senior from Port Neches Groves High School, is second on the Cru this season with a 72.74 stroke average over ten tournaments. He has just three rounds of 75 or higher in 23 rounds played on the year. Brown has nine top ten finishes on the season and has finished second in four different events. Brown was named to the American Southwest Conference All-Conference Second Team after finishing in a tie for ninth place at the ASC Tournament earlier this month.

Heien, a senior from Royken, Norway, leads UMHB with a 72.00 stroke average over nine events this year. He has four individual tournament wins on the season and has seven top ten finishes overall. Heien has posted just four rounds over 75 in 21 rounds played on the year. He was an ASC All-Conference First Team selection after winning individual medalist honors at the ASC Championship Tournament.

The Cru won the ASC Tournament by 20 strokes to claim the seventh conference championship in program history. UMHB will close out the season with the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf National Championships. The National Championship will be played May 16-19th at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida.

Heien is a Semifinalist for the Jack Nicklaus Award for the second straight year. This is the first time Brown has been named a Semifinalist for the award.

Nicklaus Award recipients will be announced June 1 with the honor presented by Jack Nicklaus at a ceremony during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance at Muirfield Village Golf Club. In addition to receiving the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, the five recipients will compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption into the PGA TOUR’s Barbasol Championship, held July 20-23, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Grand National in Opelika, Alabama. The Barbasol Shootout will be held Saturday, June 3 at the storied Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio - the same club where Jack Nicklaus learned the game of golf as a young boy.
