Autopsy finds cause of toddler's death is still undetermined

The Copperas Cove Police Department is investigating the death of an 18-month-old.

According to Copperas Cove Police, on April 5, they received a 911 call at 4 a.m. about a baby not breathing. When officers arrived at the scene, they began CPR until EMS got to the scene. 

The toddler was transported to Metroplex Hospital and later transferred to Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center. Riley Davis died on April 8. 

Justice of the Peace GW Ivey who pronounced the 18-month old deceased states he believes the toddler was a victim of a homicide but his body has been sent to Dallas for an autopsy to confirm.

An autopsy performed by Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas found that the cause of death remained undetermined. The autopsy found contusions on Davis' head but there was no underlying skull fracture or injury to the brain. The medical examiner also stated on the autopsy that it was unclear how the contusions are related to the cause of death. 

Copperas Cove police said they were still continuing the investigation.
