Country singer Pat Green played a free concert Thursday night for members of the military on Fort Hood.

The Pat Green show on Fort Hood meant a lot to Central Texas's fighting men and women.

Daniel Shield has been in the Army for 24 years and says the free concert is a chance to create memories with his family... *something he doesn't get to do very often.

"I don't think anybody in the military asks for the privileges people out of the goodness of their heart decide to do it for us because we do give up quite a bit," Shields said. "We can't always do this and the service members spend a lot of time away from home and so we have to cherish the special moments like this."

Shield's daughter Rian Sharp lives on Fort Hood with her husband who is currently deployed. She relies on events like this to help her cope with their time apart.

"And with him being gone it's making time go by a lot easier being able to come out and do things," Sharp said.
