Baylor Women’s Golf is Top Seed at Big 12 Championship

Baylor women’s golf is the No. 1 seed at the 2017 Big 12 Championship, which runs Friday through Sunday at The Dominion Country Club in San Antonio, Texas. It’s the first time in program history the Lady Bears have been the league’s No. 1 seed.

Baylor earned the top seed by being the highest-ranked Big 12 team at No. 17 in the latest Golfweek rankings. No. 18 Oklahoma State is the No. 2 seed, No. 20 Oklahoma is the No. 3 seed, No. 23 Texas is the No. 4 seed, No. 27 Texas Tech is the No. 5 seed, No. 35 TCU is the No. 6 seed and No. 47 Iowa State is the No. 7 seed. Kansas State and Kansas round out the field as the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds, respectively.

BU will be paired with Oklahoma State and Oklahoma for Friday’s first round, and those teams will begin their rounds from the first tee starting at 8 a.m. CT. Second and third round tee times will be set in reverse order of standings with the leaders teeing off last.

Baylor is returning to the site of the 2015 Big 12 Championship, where the team claimed the first league title in school history. The Lady Bears have finished among the top three teams in four of five previous Big 12 Championships under sixth-year head coach Jay Goble. BU won in 2015, took second place in 2013, finished third in 2012 and 2014 and placed sixth last year.

The Baylor lineup features redshirt sophomore Dylan Kim, junior Amy Lee, sophomore Maria Vesga and freshmen Cheerie Tan and Fiona Liddell. Kim is the only returnee from the 2015 title team, and Vesga is the only returnee from the BU lineup at last year’s Big 12 Championship.

BU has six top-four finishes in nine tournaments this season, including a title at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. The Lady Bears have a 130-30-1 combined head-to-head record on the season, including 11-3 against Big 12 Conference opponents. Baylor has faced all eight Big 12 opponents this season and is 1-1 vs. Oklahoma State, 1-0 vs. Oklahoma, 1-1 vs. Texas, 3-0 vs. Texas Tech, 0-1 vs. TCU, 2-0 vs. Iowa State, 2-0 vs. Kansas State and 1-0 vs. Kansas.
