Vasquez pitches perfect game, Highlassies sweep Vernon

WACO, TX (KXXV) -

The McLennan Highlasssies swept the Vernon Lady Chaparrals this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.

Freshman pitcher Victoria Vasquez pitched a perfect game to get the 1-0 win in the circle of game one. Vasquez faced the minimum of 21 batters in the seven-inning contest, striking out eight Lady Chaparrals. McLennan scored the only run in the second inning. Gabrielle Fonseca led off with a double and moved to third on a bunt by Haley Webre. Fonseca then scored on a fly out by Victoria Gonzales. 

McLennan defeated Vernon 7-3 in game two with Vannessa Castro getting the win and Kyleigh Homesley picking up the save in the circle. 

The Highlassies began the scoring with one run in the bottom of the first as Serena Saldivar drew a walk and came around to score on a double by Dariann Resendez.

McLennan added to it's lead with two runs in the third. Theresa Gonzales singled and Saldivar was safe at first on a misplayed sacrifice bunt. Theresa Gonzales scored on a fly out by Resendez. Saldivar stole third and Elizabeth Svienty singled. Fonseca then grounded out to score Saldivar. 

Vernon tied the game with three runs in the fourth. Taylor Humeston and Rachel Baxley both singled. Nely Sosa followed with a three-run homer.

The Highlassies took the lead with two runs in the fifth. Saldivar hit a solo home run. Resendez then doubled and scored on a single by Fonseca.

McLennan tacked on two runs in the sixth to round out the scoring. Breanna Heredia led off with a single, moved to second a sacrifice bunt by Maddie Warhol and advanced to third on a passed ball. Victoria Gonzales then singled to score Heredia, and Theresa Gonzales doubled to score Victoria Gonzales.
