McLennan baseball continues to hold down No. 3 spot in NJCAA poll

WACO, TX (KXXV) -

The McLennan Highlanders are ranked third in the NJCAA Division I Baseball Rankings for the fifth consecutive week and received one first-place vote for the second consecutive week.The Highlanders have an overall record of 36-7 and are 17-3 in conference play.

Chipola (Florida) and Dyersburg State (Tennessee) remained in the top two spots with records of 37-7 and 37-4, respectively. Polk State (Florida) jumped up to third from sixth with a 38-10 record. Chattahoochee Valley (Alabama) with a record of 36-9 is fifth.

Three of McLennan’s Region V opponents are also ranked. Odessa fell three spots to 12th with a 34-8 record. Grayson remained 14th with a record of 28-10, and Midand fell two spots to 15th with a 32-11 record.


Panola (34-9) from Region XIV at 16th and San Jacinto (28-13) at 20th are the only other Texas schools in the poll.

The Highlanders travel to Gainesville for a doubleheader with North Central at 1 p.m. Wednesdayand will complete the four-game series with the Lions with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark Saturday.

    The National Champion University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team was a consensus #2 pick in both of the major Division III polls following the 2017 season. The Cru matched the second-highest final ranking in program history after closing out the season with a 12-0 loss to Mount Union in Stagg Bowl XLV last Friday in Salem, Virginia.
