An ex-police officer was arrested and charged with aggravated assault against a public servant after threatening to harm himself.

The Bell County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Veterans Crisis Line about a call where Krzystof Kala, 43, was threatening himself with a 40-caliber weapon. The BCSO said Kala was former military and an ex-police officer with Killeen PD and Nolanville PD.

When deputies checked on the welfare of Kala, Kala pointed a weapon at Deputy Jevon Smith. During the struggle, Deputy Smith suffered an injury to his leg. He was treated and released from Baylor Scott and White.

The incident happened on the 2600 block of Pecan Drive on April 4 around 10 p.m.

Kala was arrested at the scene. He was charged with aggravated assault of a public servant. His bond is $100,000.
