Baylor Baseball Loses Midweek Game to Lamar

WACO, TX (KXXV) -

Baylor baseball lost an 11-1 decision to Lamar on Wednesday evening at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears (19-10) fell behind early to the Cardinals (17-13) and were unable to mount a comeback.

Trailing 1-0 after the first inning, Lamar added onto its lead with five runs in the second thanks in part from a grand slam by Reid Russell. The Cardinals tacked on two more in the third and posted a three-run home run in the ninth.

The Bears’ lone run came in the third inning after a Tucker Cascadden leadoff double and Matt Menard RBI ground out.

Lamar starter Ryan Johnson (1-0) earned the win, tossing two hitless, scoreless innings with three walks and one strikeout. BU starter Alex Phillips (3-2) took the loss, allowing eight runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks with one strikeout in 2.1 innings.

NOTES

*Baylor is 6-2 in midweek games this season.

*Baylor has finished its home schedule with a .500 record or better (12-7 in 2017) in all 18 seasons at Baylor Ballpark (since 1999) and is 409-189 all-time at the park.

*Baylor leads the all-time series vs. Lamar 44-32-1, 25-13 in Waco and had won three straight in the series.

*Sophomore outfielder T.J. Raguse has an nine-game on-base streak.

*Junior JUCO shortstop Tucker Cascadden has a three-game hitting streak as he posted his fourth multi-hit game.

*Senior first baseman Aaron Dodson notched his fourth multi-hit game.

*Freshman RHP Hayden Kettler posted a career-high 3.2 innings in relief, all scoreless.
