Two fourth grade classes from Leon Heights Elementary School in Belton had the chance to watch a Platoon Live Fire Training on Wednesday morning through the Adopt a School program.

The program matches most of Bell County schools with an Army unit on Fort Hood. The unit typically helps with school open houses and special events.

Leon Heights fourth graders, however, received a special invitation by their adopted unit, 2-5 CAV Battalion, to watch a Table 12 Gunnery which is essentially tank training.

The students also were allowed to climb on tanks, bradleys and more, as well as witness live in-field first aid practice.

Some soldiers even allowed students to try on their equipment.
