No. 21/22 Baylor Baseball Salvages Finale at Washington

No. 21/22 Baylor baseball earned a 6-3 win over Washington on Sunday afternoon at Husky Ballpark. The Bears (19-9) used three home runs to salvage the series finale against the Huskies (16-10).

Shea Langeliers put the Bears up 1-0 right away with a two-out solo home run in the first. However, Washington countered with a two-out solo shot in the bottom half.

In Langeliers’ next at-bat, he homered to right field after single by Josh Bissonette and Matt Menard to put the Bears up 4-1 in the third.

The Huskies answered with two runs in the bottom of the third, but a Menard RBI single in the top of the fourth put BU up 5-3. Menard then launched an opposite field homer in the seventh to make it a 6-3 Bears lead that stood.

BU starter Cody Bradford (4-2) earned the win, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Troy Montemayor picked up his seventh save with a scoreless ninth. UW starter Joe DeMers (3-2) took the loss, surrendering five runs on eight hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 3.2 innings.

QUOTE OF THE GAME

“It was huge to get a win and get multiple hits in an inning. Today wasn’t much different than we’ve been playing – there was no magic potion – the balls we hit just found holes today. Kyle Hill was really good today in an extended outing out of the bullpen, and we pitched it well all-around today.” – Head Coach Steve Rodriguez

Baylor hosts Lamar at 6 p.m. CT on Wednesday at Baylor Ballpark.
