No. 4 Baylor Men’s Golf One Shot Back of Lead at Aggie Invite

Baylor men’s golf is in second place, one shot back of the lead after playing two rounds on Saturday at the Aggie Invitational. The Bears shot 10-under-par 278 in the first round and even-par 288 in the second round at Traditions Golf Club.

The No. 4-ranked Bears (-10) trail only No. 8 LSU (-11). BU is in front of No. 17 Texas A&M (+1), No. 2 Oklahoma State (+4), No. 18 Texas (+5), No. 29 North Carolina (+5), No. 7 Kent State (+13), No. 13 Texas Tech (+16), No. 46 Michigan (+18), No. 25 Arkansas (+18), North Texas (+19), UTSA (+37) and New Mexico State (+41).

Cooper Dossey and Garrett May are tied for second place in the 75-player field at 5-under-par 139 after both shot 5-under 67 in the first round and even-par 72 in the second round. Matthew Perrine is tied for eighth place at 2-under 142 following an even-par 72 in the first round and a 2-under 70 in the second round. Hunter Shattuck is tied for 19th at 2-over 146, and Braden Bailey is tied for 43rd at 6-over 150. Shattuck carded an even-par 72 in the first round, while Bailey shot 4-over 76, and both shot 2-over 74 in the second round.

The Bears had a four-shot lead following the first round, but LSU gained five strokes in the second round to the take the lead by one stroke. Dossey and May are one shot back of the individual lead held by Michigan’s Kyle Mueller (-6).

HIGHLIGHTS

Baylor leads the 13-team field in par-3 scoring at 1-under 2.98 and par-4 scoring at 6-over 4.06, and BU ranks second in par-5 scoring at 9-under 4.78.

Matthew Perrine was the only player to make two eagles on Saturday and he accounted for two of the five eagles made over 150 rounds played during the day.

Perrine made eagle on the 539-yard, par-5 fifth hole in the first round and on the 576-yard, par-5 15th hole in the second round.

Baylor’s 40 birdies are six more than any other team in the field.

Cooper Dossey is tied for third in par-4 scoring at 2-under 3.90, while Garrett May is tied for sixth at 1-under 3.95.

Perrine is tied for third in par-5 scoring at 4-under 4.50, while May is tied for eighth at 3-under 4.63.

May and Dossey are tied for fourth in par-3 scoring at 1-under 2.88.

Three Bears rank top-10 in birdies made – May is tied for the tournament lead with 11 birdies, Dossey is tied for fourth with nine and Perrine is tied for eighth with eight.

May sank seven birdies over a 10-hole stretch in the first round – he birdied Nos. 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13 and 14, while making pars on Nos. 9, 10 and 11.

1 – May is the only player ranked in the top-10 in par-3, par-4 and par-5 scoring – he’s tied for fourth in par-3 scoring (2.88), tied for sixth in par-4 scoring (3.95) and tied for eighth in par-5 scoring (4.63).
