Highlanders holding steady in NJCAA poll

WACO, TX (KXXV) -

The McLennan Highlanders baseball squad, with an overall record of 25-7, remain third in this week’s NJCAA Division I Baseball Rankings.

Dyersburg State (Tennessee) moved into the top spot this week with an overall record of 29-2. Odessa, a Region V opponent for the Highlanders, moved up two spots to second with a record of 26-3. Chipola (Florida), the previous No. 1, dropped down to fourth with a 29-6 record and Polk State (Florida) rounds out the top five with a 27-9 record.

Panola (27-5) from Region XIV at eighth and Grayson (11-6) from Region V at 17th are the only other Texas schools in the poll.

The Highlanders take a break from conference play this week with three non-conference games on the schedule. They host Coastal Bend for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday before traveling to Wharton for a game at 3 p.m. Monday. Conference play will resume Wednesday, April 5, with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Weatherford.
