COLLEGE STATION, TX (KXXV) -

A man is behind bars after he tried to rob a purse from a woman, according to police.

College Station police say that the incident happened at 1:11 p.m. on the 1500 block of University Drive East. A woman flagged down police saying that a man had stolen her purse from her arm as she was trying to get in a car in a parking lot. Family members tried to stop the man.

The suspect threatened the family and fled from the parking lot. He dropped the purse a short time after.

A family member was able to point out the man to police and after a short foot pursuit, the officer was able to take in the suspect, Jeremy Lowery, 28, into custody.

Lowery is charged with a second degree felony robbery and evading arrest.
