Highlassies, Lady Leopards split on softball diamond

The McLennan Highlassies and Temple Lady Leopards split today's conference doubleheader in Temple.

Temple took game one 4-3 with Victoria Vasquez taking the loss for the Highlassies in the circle. 

The Lady Leopards scored two runs in the second. Makenzy McDermott doubled and Mariah Miramontez followed with a single. An overthrow moved Miramontez to second and brought McDermott in to score. Kelsie Murie then singled to score Miramontez. 

Temple added a run with Amyann Loeffler's solo home run in the fourth.

McLennan got on the board with Victoria Gonzales' home run in the fifth inning.

The Highlassies tied the game with two runs in the sixth. Zayra Olguin bunted for a a single and scored on a triple by Haley Webre. Estrella Guardiola then singled to score Webre.

Temple sealed the win with one run in the bottom of the sixth. McDermott walked and was replaced by pinch runner Taylor Smith. Smith moved to second on a single by Miramontez, stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Murie.

McLennan bounced back to defeat Temple 5-1 in game two with Vannessa Castro getting the in win the circle and Vasquez picking up the save.

The Highlassies scored one run in the top of the first as Victoria Gonzales doubled, moved to third on a fly out by Theresa Gonzales and scored on a single by Saldivar.

McLennan added two runs in the fourth. Saldivar and Svienty both singled and advanced on a passed ball. Saldivar scored on a single by Guardiola and Svienty scored on a single by Angie Camacho.

Temple's only run came in the bottom of the fourth. Miramontez was safe at first and moved to second on a McLennan error, stole third and scored on a fly out by Murie.

The Highlassies rounded out the scoring with two runs in the fifth. Victoria Gonzales was safe on an error and Saldivar also reached first safely on an error. Ruby Trejo singled to score Victoria Gonzales and Saldivar scored on a single by Webre. 

McLennan continues conference play on Wednesay hosting North Central for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
