Downtown Waco is growing, and the city wants to make sure that continues.

The city council will be looking at a second reading of an ordinance on Tuesday to hire a consultant to conduct a downtown market study.

City Manager Dale Fisseler watched downtown Fort Worth grow, and when he moved to Waco, he noticed the same thing was starting to happen.

"Downtown Waco has really taken off. We've got a lot of new businesses coming in and in a lot of different areas. We have commercial, we have residential, we've got retail. And we're trying to figure out with study, are there things that are missing that we need to incentivize to bring more people downtown," Fisseler said.

A consultant should be hired in the next few months and the study should be complete by September.

The study will cost $65,000 and tax increment funds will pay for it.
