Baylor Track & Field Women Start 2017 Outdoor Season Ranked 17th

The Baylor women's track and field team was ranked 17th in the preseason edition of the USTFCCCA Outdoor Team Rankings, the organization announced Monday.

The BU women racked up a total of 111.44 points in the computer-based rankings. Meanwhile, the Baylor men are listed outside the top-25 at No. 28 with 75.56 points.

The point tally is based on 2016 outdoor performances from each team's top talent and top marks from the current outdoor season.

This is the ninth-straight season that the BU women have garnered a spot in the preseason top-25 rankings. Last outdoor season, the women opened at No. 19 and they were No. 10 in 2015.

The Baylor women's points came from a myriad of athletes, highlighted by three top-10 rated marks, which includes Annie Rhodes (pole vault, 2nd), Maggie Montoya (5,000m, 5th) and Cion Hicks (shot put, 9th).

On the men's side, the majority of their points came from Felix Obi (triple jump, 5th), the 4x400-meter relay crew (6th) and Wil London in the 400 meters (7th).

Baylor opened its outdoor season last week at the TCU Invitational and will be back in action Thursday at the Roadrunners Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
