KILLEEN, TX (KXXV) -

A man was flown to the hospital late Saturday night after police said numerous vehicles hit him.

Killeen police said they received a call about a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle about 11:22 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a man lying on the road on Interstate 14 (formerly known as Highway 190), police said.

Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that a white Ford F350 was traveling westbound in the middle lane on IH-14 when the driver noticed a pedestrian attempting to across the interstate.

As the driver attempted to change lanes, the left side of the vehicle hit the man. A white Chevy Sonic and another unknown vehicle were also traveling westbound when the man was seen in the roadway near the exit ramp.

The man was hit by both other vehicles. The unknown vehicle fled the scene.

No one in the vehicles were injured.

The man was flown to the hospital in critical condition. Police said the 44-year-old man's current condition is still critical as of Monday, but he is stable.

"Officers were told the pedestrian was on the westbound side of I-14, when he was hit by numerous vehicles traveling westbound," Killeen Police Department spokesperson Ofelia Miramontez said.

The crash is under investigation.

Officers are asking anyone who has information about this crash or the unknown vehicle that fled the scene to contact Crime Stoppers at 254-526-TIPS (8477) or go online at www.bellcountycrimestoppers.com or text BELLCO along with the tip to 274637.
