WACO, TX (KXXV) -

No. 10 Baylor women’s tennis rebounded from two losses this week in a big way, sweeping No. 47 Oklahoma, 4-0, to record its first Big 12 Conference win of the season. The Lady Bears have won 15 consecutive dual matches against the Sooners and lead the all-time series, 21-3.

With the win, Baylor moves to 11-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference play, while the Sooners drop to 8-3 overall and 0-1. The Lady Bears are 3-2 on the season against ranked opponents.

No. 2 duo Angelina Shakhraichuk and Jessica Hinojosa opened doubles action with a 6-2 win over Lily Miyazaki and Simran Sethi, before senior Rhiann Newborn and junior Theresa Van Zyl keyed the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.

With a 1-0 advantage, Baylor did not let up in singles action, winning the next three points with two-set victories to clinch. Shakhraichuk scored first, earning a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ann Selim at No. 5 singles. Sophomore Elizabeth Profit followed suit with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Malene Stripp in the No. 3 slot.

Senior Blair Shankle, who is rated No. 11 nationally, came through at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 7-5 victory against No. 22 Lily Miyazaki to record the match-winner. It is her second time clinching the team result for the Lady Bears this season.
