The Copperas Cove Police Department said they received a warrant service from the US Army for William Nicholas Powell.
The 34-year-old soldier was being sought by military police in Kentucky, home to Fort Campbell and Fort Knox and was later arrested in Texas for desertion.
He was taken into custody on Dec. 24.
It has not been said what unit Powell belongs to or how long military authorities had been searching for him.
Powell is being held at the Coryell County Jail.
