A man crashed into a concrete utility pole and died Sunday around 2:30 a.m. in Bryan.

Police said 25-year-old Jose Martinez was driving a Ford Ranger on the 1000 block of S. Texas Ave. He failed to control his speed in a curve and lost control, striking the utility pole.

Martinez was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours.

Police said during the investigation, a patrol vehicle that was blocking the roadway was hit by a suspected drunk driver.

The driver, 40-year-old Richard Castle, was arrested for DWI and resisting arrest.

The patrol officer was out of his vehicle investigating the original fatality scene.
