UMHB women's golf finishes third at Abilene Intercollegiate

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s golf team slipped one spot in the team standings and the Cru finished in third place at the Abilene Intercollegiate Tuesday in Abilene. It was the second straight top three finish for the UMHB women.

The Cru finished with a 317-325=642 team total for third place. U.T. Tyler won the team championship after carding a 312-298=610 to finish 24 shots ahead of second place Southwestern University’s 321-313=634 score. Schreiner University claimed fourth place with a 324-328=652 and tournament host Hardin-Simmons capped the top five with a 340-326=666. Concordia Texas took sixth place after shooting 343-337=680, McMurry University’s 344-356=700 was good for seventh place, Texas Lutheran was eighth at 367-358=725 and Howard Payne University rounded out the nine-team field with a 387-394=781 total.

McKenna Ralston was the low individual finisher for the Cru after she shot 77-80=157 to take sixth place. Cassidy Rawls (77-85) and Olivia Robinson (79-83) tied for 10th place after carding 162’s, Emily Ming (84-79) and Aubrey Starnes (82-81) both fired 163’s to tie for 14th place and Tori Gatling tied for 22nd place with an 84-83=167. U.T. Tyler’s Morgan Loth won the individual title after shooting 71-73=144.

The two-day, 36-hole event was played on a par-71, 6,009-yard layout at Diamond Golf Course in Abilene. The tournament also closes out the fall schedule for the Cru women

The Cru won their first-ever DIII Football Championship last season in a defensive slugfest against Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and Friday’s match-up against the Purple Raiders was no different.
