UMHB women's soccer beats LeTourneau 3-1

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team grabbed a first-half lead and then held on in the second half as the Cru posted a 3-1 victory over LeTourneau University Friday evening in Belton. UMHB improves to 10-3-1 overall and 7-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 6-7-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the ASC on the season.

Caitlyn Shaughnessy opened the scoring when she connected off an assist from Sarah Kopp 21:01 into the match to give the Cru a 1-0 lead. Taylor Marques added another UMHB goal in the 39th minute to make it 2-0 going into the second half. Shasughnessy added an insurance goal off Kat Parker’s assist nine minutes into the second half to make it 3-0 UMHB. LeTourneau put up a goal on Kennedy Keer’s unassisted goal in the 59th minute, but that would end the scoring.

Courtney Craig and Cassidi Musser combined for one save in goal for UMHB. Carrye Funk had 11 saves for LeTourneau. The Cru out shot LeTourneau 23-9 in the match.

The Cru women will host East Texas Baptist for a 5:00 PM start on Saturday. It will be the regular season home finale for UMHB and Senior Day for nine Cru seniors.
