Fifteen children are injured after the school bus they were on was involved in crash on Friday afternoon near Madisonville.

According to the Department of Transportation, the driver of a passenger car traveling southbound on I-45 access road stopped at a stop sign and then pulled out into the path of the Madisonville ISD school bus traveling northeast on State Hwy 75. Both vehicles crashed at the intersection of I-45 access road and SH 75, which caused the school bus to roll over onto its side around 4 p.m.

Bryan District DPS Spokesman Trooper Jimmy Morgan said 14 children were transported to area hospitals by ambulance and one of them was airlifted to Temple. The ages of children range from six to 18. The bus driver and the passenger of car were also sent to the hospital with injuries. The extent of the injuries are unknown.

Morgan said charges could be filed against the driver of the passenger car for failure to yield the right of way at a stopped intersection.
