Fort Hood soldier dies from wounds sustained overseas

A Fort Hood soldier died Thursday according to Fort Hood officials. 

The Department of Defense announced that Sgt. Douglas J. Riney, 26, died from wounds he received encountering hostile enemy forces in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Riney, from Fairview, Illinois, entered active-duty service in July 2012 as a petroleum supply specialist. He was previously assigned to the Support Squadron, the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood.

Riney received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, four Army Achievement medals among several others.
