WACO, TX (KXXV) -

The Greater Waco Chamber hosted the State of the Nation Luncheon and Senator Ted Cruz attended the event.

Cruz was joined by Congressman Bill Flores and the United States Chamber of Commerce's Rob Engstrom all took to the stage. A moderator asked question and the politicians each gave an answer.

The men were asked questions about topics such as infrastructure, government entitlements, and the economy.

"Our economy for eight years under Barack Obama has been stagnant," Cruz said. "The national debt has almost doubled, that's what we've seen in eight years."

Although the senator said the national debt has gone from $10 trillion to $19 trillion under President Obama, Chris Collins with the Greater Waco Chamber said that opposite has happened in McLennan County.

"Texas and McLennan County have not really followed the pace of the nation," Collins said. "We’ve had about 1.3 billion dollars in industrial growth in McLennan County."

Collins said that McLennan County's location, plus the business friendly environment is what has kept the county afloat.

"We’ve had positive job growth. Even during the Great Recession we saw positive growth within this community," she said. " McLennan County has continued to see positive, growth especially over these last ten years."
