Two teens are accused of trying to run over a school resource officer at Temple High School.

A City of Temple news release said it all started around 4:15 p.m. Monday when a school resource officer tried to make contact with a 15-year-old male who’d been suspended and escorted off of school property for assaulting and threatening students and staff.

Police said the 15-year-old was the passenger in a stolen silver Toyota Corolla driven by a 16-year-old male. As the officer approached the front of the car, police said the driver drove forward toward the officer, hitting several cars in the process. The officer drew his duty weapon and told the driver to stop. Police said the driver then backed up hitting the cars again and nearly running over the assistant principal. Police said the car ended up crashing into a tree and coming to a stop.

Temple Police took the two suspects into custody and transported them to Bell County Juvenile Detention. They are charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and theft of motor vehicle.
