UMHB men's tennis continues play at ITA Southwest Regional

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s tennis team continued play at the Oracle/ITA Southwest Regional Tournament Saturday in Tyler. Main draw play opened in both singles and doubles on Saturday.

In flight “A” men’s singles, Scott Wilding opened with a 7-6(4), 6-2 victory over Paul Bhatia of Trinity University. Wilding then topped Southwestern’s Grant Gideon 6-3, 6-1 in the second round. Cole Weiss opened with a 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 win over Cameron Bilsbarrow of Trinity before falling to U.T.-Tyler’s Daniel Rodriguez 6-1, 6-3 in the second round. Julian Dunmore won his first round match 6-1, 6-4 against McMurry’s Clayton Pope. Dunmore then lost to top-seeded Arthur Fagundes of U.T.-Tyler 6-0, 6-2 in second round action.

In flight “B” singles, Alex Mackellar opened with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Schreiner’s Luis Cabreja. Jace Mahan lost to Edgar Torres of Howard Payne 3-6, 6-1, 10-7 in the opening round.

In flight “C” singles, Brian Martin opened with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory over Travis Fortune of Austin College.

In the “Orange” singles bracket, Chase Van Cleave lost in the opening round to John Herr of ETBU 6-4, 6-0.

In the “Blue” singles flight, Jake Boles opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jacob Hernandez of Howard Payne. Boles would lose to Adrian Montes of Concordia Texas 6-2, 6-1 in the second round.

In championship flight doubles, Wilding and Weiss teamed up for an 8-6 win over Jacob Organ and Dillon Murray of Ozarks.

The tournament runs through Monday in Tyler. The ITA Southwest Regional closes out the fall schedule for the UMHB men.
