Some Waco-area business and community leaders are trying to make Waco a top Texas city and they traveled outside of the state to get an idea of just how to do that.

The Greater Waco Chamber hosted the Intercity Leadership Visit, where local professionals went to Nashville, Tennessee in hopes of bringing fresh and innovative ideas to Waco.

Linda Beasley is the Executive Vice President of the Waco Chamber and she said the trip is very important to the city.

"The purpose of the trip was to exchange ideas and look at innovative ideas other communities are doing to make their city appealing to visitors and prospective residents," Beasley said. "I'd like to encourage more people to go with us, because the more people we can get involved in our Intercity Leadership Visits, the more excitement."

The V.P. said the trip is important because it gives local leaders a moral boost.

Will Phipps is the Executive Director at the Greater Waco Sports Commission. He said the Nashville trip was a game changer for him.

"I woke up this morning really excited, really fired up," Phipps said.

He went on to say that he's coming back with big plans for Waco.

"One of my dreams is for us to have a bowl game at McLane Stadium, and really showcase what we have to offer," he said. "The next step for me is to get with my board of directors and talk about the things we learned."

The executive director said he's really excited about what Waco's future holds. "There are big things ahead for us, and if everyone comes together, and we work together to move in the same direction, we can really accomplish some really exciting things here in Waco."

Beasley said anyone interested in going on the Intercity Leadership Visit next year should contact the Greater Waco Chamber.
