ELM MOTT, TX (KXXV) -

The American Legion Post 121 in Elm Mott had a special memorial service to remember those who died in 9/11, and the first responders who served those affected by the worst terrorist attack on American soil.

It has been 15 years since one of the most notorious days in American history, September 11, 2001.

Everyone from veterans, local first responders and everyday people came to show their respects at the memorial service held at Post 121.

Unit Auxiliary President Leah Williams planned the memorial service. She said she clearly remembers that tragic day in American history.

"I just remember being in shock," Williams said. "I thought it was a joke."

Williams said she planned the memorial service today because she has people in her family who are put their lives on the line in order to protect and serve others.

"I grew up around first responders," she said. "This really means a lot to me."

Hotdogs, chips and cake were served at the conclusion of the service.
