In an interview with ESPN, former Baylor University football coach Art Briles apologized for the incidents that happened under his time as the coach.

“I made mistakes. I did wrong, but I’m not doing this trying to make myself feel better for apologizing,” Briles told ESPN. “I understand I made some mistakes.”

Briles was fired in May after a review of the university’s handling of sexual assaults by Pepper Hamilton. The findings found that the football program, under Briles’ watch, created “significant concerns” about the culture of the program and player accountability in the incidents of sexual assault on campus.

Briles had 8 years remaining on his contract with Baylor when he was fired.

Briles says he has plans to continue coaching in 2017.
