Waco ISD has reassigned one of their new employees after learning she wrote a racially offensive Facebook post in 2015.

Karen Fitzgibbons was originally hired in July to teach at one of the Waco ISD elementary schools.

Waco ISD said they took immediate action when they learned the details of a social media post, putting her in a non-teaching role in administration.

They added that Fitzgibbons was truthful in her employment application, mentioning she resigned last year because of an inappropriate social media post. She said she regretted the contents of the post.

“The district is reviewing the implementation of its hiring policies and procedures at both the campus and administrative levels.” Superintendent Dr. Bonny Clain said.

Waco ISD put a replacement teacher in place until they hire another teacher permanently for the position.
