Power outage at Temple High School cancels some activities

Temple High School experienced a power outage on Tuesday afternoon, which prompted the district to cancel some planned activities, including a convocation for staff members.

According to Temple ISD spokesman Matthew LeBlanc, high school staff and a few students present at the district staff conference when the power outage occurred at 12 p.m., were sent home.

A junior varsity and varsity volleyball games against Florence on Tuesday afternoon were canceled and postponed until Wednesday at 5 p.m. Dance practice on Tuesday afternoon has been canceled. However, band rehearsal, theater and football practices will take place as normal. Security will increase at the Temple High School on Tuesday night. 

The outage happened around 11:40 a.m. after a delivery truck arriving to the high school parking pulled a low-hanging line, causing the pole to lean and the power lines then fell on top of the truck.The truck driver who did not sustain any injuries was able to jump out of the truck after it occurred. Temple firefighters waiting until Oncor arrived before clearing the scene. 

LeBlanc said Oncor told the district it could take from four to eight hours for the power to be restored.
