WACO, TX (KXXV) -

A Waco couple faces charges after leaving their infant in a motel while trying to get cigars for smoking marijuana.

According to Waco Police Department, Nicholas Howlett and Leah Omollo left their 7-week-old baby in a motel on the 2500 block of Bagby Ave.

The couple had been smoking marijuana Saturday afternoon when they ran out of blunt wraps. The two went to the grocery store to buy more, leaving the baby alone in the motel room.

While the couple was away, the fire alarm went off. A housekeeper who heard the alarm responded, finding the infant alone in the room.

The parents returned to the motel just as police were arriving. CPS placed the baby with family members.

Howlett was arrested for possession of marijuana and abandoning a child. Omollo was arrested for abandoning a child.
