A police chase ended in a ditch after a woman reported that her daughter was taken against her will. That's according to investigators at the scene.

The mother told Mart Police that her daughter was taken at her workplace. The suspect, Jaurqae Marcell, 20, used her children as leverage to force her to comply.

Marcell took off in a white Ford Explorer.

The Mart Police Department said it located Marcell on Hwy 164 and tried to pull him over. They said the man sped off, causing a police chase. It ended, police said, when the suspect purposely drove into a ditch.

Once he was in the ditch, police said he began to grab at the woman. So, they said they used a Taser on him to subdue him.

McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara said while his deputies helped, the credit goes to the Mart Police Department.

"McClennan County is very grateful to Mart P.D. because we got one of our bad guys that we wanted and they stopped this aggravated kidnapping," McNamara said. "It could have turned out very badly for the lady that was in the car."

Marcell had a warrant for an aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping and evading arrest. Jail records show he is in the McLennan County jail awaiting arraignment.
