Early Thursday morning, an undercover deputy sustained head injuries after crashing with a vehicle suspected of being involved in a robbery.

The crash occurred in the 2500 block of Cole Avenue before 1:30 a.m.

According to the McLennan County Sheriff's Office, an officer tried to stop the vehicle suspected of being involved in robbery and it fled from an officer. The vehicle suspected to be involved in a robbery that was traveling east on Cole Avenue struck the driver's side of an unmarked Sheriff's Office vehicle traveling north on N. 25th St.

"The McLennan County Sheriff's vehicle ended up half way up the block, spun around and he was ejected from the vehicle. He did suffer injuries. He is coherent and at the hospital," Waco Police officer Scott Thomas said.

Thomas added the vehicle of interest also spun around and hit the side of the Buckeye Bingo Hall, which had been the scene of a shooting on Wednesday afternoon.

The deputy sustained head injuries after being ejected from the vehicle and will remain at the hospital overnight.

The two passengers of the vehicle of interest were sent to Baylor Scott and White at Hillcrest. The driver of that vehicle fled the scene.
