Police seize 763 pounds of marijuana during traffic stop

LORENA, TX (KXXV) -

The Lorena Police Department seized 763 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on the interstate on Tuesday night.

39-year-old Hugo Daniel Torres from Laredo was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana over 50 pounds and under 2000 pounds.

According to Lorena Police, officers stopped a 2014 Ford F450 on interstate 35 near the 326 mile post.

Officials said they found 763 pounds of marijuana in the bed of the truck. In addition, two children in the vehicle ages 8 and 13 were in the truck at the time officers conducted the traffic stop.

The Department of Family and Protective Services responded to investigate the children’s presence.

Hewitt Police and Robinson Police assisted with the investigation.

The case remains under investigation and more arrests may be possible.

On Wednesday morning, Torres remained in the McLennan County Jail.
