The McLennan County Sheriff's Office called off a vehicle pursuit in the Waco area out of an abundance of caution around 7 p.m. on Monday.

The pursuit, which started after 6 p.m.,took place after the driver failed to stop during a traffic stop, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Parnell McNamara said the man was driving at speeds in excess of 85 mph within the city limits, which prompted the Lieutenant to call the pursuit off.

"Considering safety, we wanted to be cautious about it so we called the pursuit off. We didn't want him injuring or killing someone," McNamara said.

The suspect is known to law enforcement and McNamara said he will be arrested.
