WACO, TX (KXXV) -

Waco Police said an 18-year-old man drove straight into a light pole on the 3700 block of Waco Dr. this morning.

An officer at the scene said the driver was driving over the posted speed limit, which is 40 miles per hour, and may have been fatigued.

It is unknown the reason behind his vehicle left the roadway.

Waco Dr. was closed from the 3600 block until the 3800 block as the vehicle was towed away. Oncor crews were at the scene helping removing cable from unstable pole and holding it during the towing of vehicle. The road reopened before 9:30 a.m.

The female passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and had non-life threatening injuries, including a head injury. The driver had some injuries, including a mild head injury, according to police.

Both of them were transported to Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Medical Center.

The driver will be cited for failure to control speed and the passenger will be ticketed for not wearing a seatbelt.
